Goed nieuws voor Schiphol Airport en Lelystad Airport: de Europese Commissie heeft definitief goedkeuring gegeven aan de verkeersverdelingsregel (VRR). Hiermee wordt het mogelijk om van het vliegveld in Lelystad een luchthaven voor voornamelijk vakantievluchten te maken.
Minister van Nieuwenhuizen heeft de concept-VRR in juli naar Brussel gestuurd. Door vakantievluchten naar Lelystad te verplaatsen, komt er op Schiphol ruimte om het economisch belangrijke netwerk van wereldwijde verbindingen in stand te houden dan wel verder uit te bouwen.
Na de opening – die nog even op zich kan laten wachten vanwege de stikstofproblematiek – zullen stapsgewijs vluchten worden verplaatst naar Lelystad Airport. Dit gebeurt overigens op vrijwillige basis.
De officiële aankondiging van het besluit van de Europese Commissie
Following consultations with all European Member States the European Commission has today adopted a positive decision on traffic distribution rules between Dutch airports Schiphol and Lelystad. EU air services Regulation (Regulation 1008/2008) provides that Member States may adopt traffic distribution rules between airports serving the same city or conurbation. As required by EU law, the Dutch authorities had notified the Commission, which had to verify that traffic distribution rules are in line with the requirements stipulated in EU Regulation 1008/2008. As outlined in the Dutch proposal to the Commission, the Netherland’s main airport Amsterdam Airport Schiphol has reached its maximum allowed aircraft movements of 500,000 per year. The aim of these rules is to move, on a voluntary basis, certain categories of flights from Schiphol to Lelystad.
The decision will shortly be published in the Official Journal.
